Meditation can reduce anxiety – and that helps with weight management, too!

How Meditation Reduces Anxiety

Meditation is a powerful self-care practice that comes with a host of benefits, such as helping alleviate the symptoms of anxiety. If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, keep reading to discover why meditation is such a beneficial tool for anxiety and a few easy ways you can start meditating now.

Let’s face it: There’s a lot to be anxious about, especially lately. From our jobs to our relationshipsfinances, and major global events (hello, COVID-19 pandemic), our lives can often seem like a series of anxiety-inducing incidents. If you’ve ever been gripped by the symptoms of anxiety, you’re certainly not alone. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, over 40 million adults in the U.S. have an anxiety disorder — with most developing symptoms before age 21. Whether your symptoms are mental (such as racing thoughts, negativity, and irritation), physical (like sweaty palms, tension headaches, and heart palpitations), or both, meditation can help play a key role in managing anxiety.

The Bottom Line

A consistent meditation practice — in whatever form speaks to you — can provide both immediate and long-term anxiety reduction, even for people who experience high levels of anxiety. “This simple act of taking time for yourself sends a message of love and care to your mind and body,” Burns explains. “By taking time to meditate, you are telling yourself you matter.”

But wait…there’s more!

I am so thankful for collaborations!

I subscribe to a wonderful website and company called Daily Om.  They put out amazing easy short-form classes for self-improvement in all areas of life:  health, fitness, spirituality, finance, and so much more.  Daily, they send me valuable content that I want to share with my tribe.

So, you’ll be seeing a lot of their work here on my site.  I want you to enjoy them as much as I do.  Moving forward, anything that I put up authored by them will be clearly linked so you can find them easily!

To my community:

Here is another great piece of content from Daily OM!  I am posting it because anxiety and stress levels go hand-in-hand with the scale!  I’m also posting this blog because many of my clients who are using anxiety drugs have expressed their desire to get off those medications.  The topic of meditation is sometimes confusing because people do not realize there are many ways we can meditate.

Even if you are from a Judeo-Christian background, you can use this body-mind practice to focus on that still small voice God speaks about in the Old Testament.  I think we can all agree that unplugging from the craziness of our world, is good and necessary no matter who we are!
