Being grounded is a great start to working on the Inner Game
This is such a great topic for my clients! It really goes together with learning about and practicing self- love. Staying grounded is defined by many people in many ways and they all make sense. You can find so many articles and information on this topic and I encourage you to do some research and check it out.
So, what does it mean to be grounded?
The phrase itself indicates keeping your feet on the ground or holding your ground, staying balanced, staying steady, standing firm and/or rooted. These phrases are of course referring to calmness or peace of mind and being present in the current circumstance. It also refers to having clarity when there is chaos or stress and keeping your true self up front and visible to the people around you in any situation. My definition would add to the above idea, and it would be related to arming myself for the day so that I feel ready to be ME as I take on the world with confidence when I walk out the door.
So, what can you do to find yourself in the place of calmness, having a sense of peace, or knowing that you are ready to take on the world with confidence?
- As a Breakthrough M2 client, I would want you to repeat your self-love statement multiple times a day
- Probably more important, I would want you to start your day with your affirmations. Remind yourself who you are, what you are capable of, what your goals are, and who you are striving to become. “I am’s” are a really great place to begin. So please use these two anchors I have taught you about. If you want to be reminded of your anchors or haven’t seen the video, please go here: Anchor video.
- Use guided meditations
- In the morning while you are saying your affirmations, literally go outside barefoot and stand in the grass. Close your eyes and focus on the positive strength you have and who you are
- The use of essential oils such as; sandalwood, cedarwood, peppermint, patchouli, vetiver and Angelica can help you stay connected to inner self.
- Do not forget about YOUR INHALER! You chose or received that scent for a reason. Use it.
- If you are a believer, Pray, meditate on God’s word, use His word as part of your affirmations in the morning.
- Breathe! Slowly inhale through the nose – hold for 8 seconds – exhale slowly through the mouth.
{Before you go into a meeting or a situation you want to bring your “A-game” to, say your affirmations with strength and confidence, do a few deep breaths, smell your inhaler, and go for it.}
What are the possible triggers that make you feel out of balance or dislodged from your firm place?
This is important to identify because it can be different for everyone, but at the same time, we are all people and we do have many things in common. So here are a few things that knock me off center at times, how about you?
- Negative energy in the workplace
- Drama from a co-worker or family member
- Traffic on the way home
- Relationship issues
- Finances
- Arguments with loved ones
I think that we can identify our triggers when we recognize the things that make us feel we compromised our beliefs or values, when we reacted in a way that we regretted later, encountered a person or situation that triggers negative thinking, or when we find ourselves drifting into distracting or procrastinating thought patterns.
Staying grounded is part of self-love – why?
My idea of self-love is making sure that “nothing or no one else, including yourself, will come before your wellness.” Since that is our starting place, incorporating exercises that bring you back to center is exactly what self-love is about. If you start your day out reminding yourself of who you are and what you bring to the world, this is self-love. If you practice grounding tactics, you will naturally be putting your mental and emotional well-being first. You will be empowering yourself to stand and be your best. If you love yourself and value who you are, you will have no problem being true to you and standing up for your beliefs and values.
How do I know if I’m getting better at it?
- You are feeling more stable more of the time especially when the same type of situation previously might have unnerved you
- Impulsive actions are happening less and less. You find yourself being able to stop and think before you speak and act, or maybe you don’t get as riled when someone says something and your reaction and conversation with them has more clarity.
- You walk away from conversations no longer annoyed with yourself because you didn’t say what you wanted to.
- You accept your feelings and other’s feelings more readily
- You are less defensive
- Your sleeping patterns are much better
- You are no longer swayed and overly sensitive to everyone else’s energy, moods, and mood swings.
- You are crying less. (Crying too much has much to do with gut issues. If this is you, please begin adding healthy doses of probiotics, and stay away from dairy and wheat.)
Wouldn’t it be nice to feel like this more often than not? That is the goal. Learning to change direction in mental and emotional areas of life takes time, patience and perseverance, but if you find yourself tipping the scale more to the side of being and feeling grounded versus not being grounded, then you are making progress!
